Why we need fertility law reform: the paradigm shift

Over the next ten to twenty years and beyond, the world will evolve rapidly to take account of powerful digital, artificial intelligence, genomic science, epigenetic and human reproductive revolutions. We will need to adopt an enlightened and multi-disciplinary approach as genetic medicine and science increasingly cross-cuts fertility treatment delivery. This will require a paradigm shift in our thinking, leadership and approach to law, policy and regulation. We will increasingly need new national and international legal frameworks and safeguards.

Perspectives on Fertility Forum 2019

LaingBuisson’s Fertility Forum in London on 1 November 2019 addressed a wide range of global issues, factors and trends which are influencing the rapidly evolving fertility sector. In addition to trends in delayed motherhood, it identified wider factors including technological advances, increased fertility awareness, greater social acceptance of modern family forms and changes in law and policy enabling greater access to assisted reproductive technology.

Fertility Forum 2019

Louisa Ghevaert will join an expert panel of speakers at the LaingBuisson Fertility Forum 2019 at the Hilton London Olympia on 1 November 2019. Fertility Forum is a one-day international conference aimed at clinics, hospitals, infertility specialists, patient organisations, interest groups, investors and other advisors involved in domestic and cross border reproductive care. Fertility Forum 2019 will focus on European and international trends in the fertility sector.

Law Commission: reforming surrogacy law

In May 2018, the Law Commission of England and Wales and the Scottish Law Commission finally began work on a surrogacy reform project. On 6 June 2019, it published a much-anticipated joint consultation paper, entitled “Building families through surrogacy: a new law”. Emily Hartridge: Life you literally can’t plan for it

Emily Hartridge, TV presenter, Instagrammer and well-known Youtuber was the first person to be fatally injured in Britain when her electric scooter collided with a lorry near her home in South London. She had fought to preserve her fertility for the last three years. Just two days before her accident, she had announced that she was part way through fertility treatment to freeze embryos and start a family with her partner.
