Creating Happy Families

A recent large-scale Japanese study has found that couples in long-term relationships develop noticeable biological similarities. It reports that their bodies synchronize on a deep biological level, which bolsters health deep into old age for those in happy relationships, whilst exacerbating health problems for others. These findings bring into focus the importance of proactively managing our relationships, personal lives, family building and reproductive choices. Building a happy and stable relationship and family life influences not just us as individuals, but also our children and wider family and friends.

When infertility strikes and fertility treatment fails: what’s next?

Infertility and difficulties conceiving a child can make you feel anxious, frustrated, angry and grief-stricken. It can leave you with unanswered questions. Why can’t I conceive? Will I ever have a baby? It can also leave you feeling emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed, stressed and stuck in a rut. These feelings can be compounded by the daunting financial costs of fertility treatment and the complex legal issues associated with assisted conception. Legal parentage disputes: modern families and the law

Legal parentage is a critical part of the creation, stability and protection of modern families and those formed through assisted conception. However, all too often parents, children and families experience problems, disputes, uncertainty and anxiety about legal parentage in the UK and around the world. Earlier this week (16 November 2020) the Supreme Court refused permission to hear a transgender man’s case to be recognised as the legal father of the child to whom he gave birth. Articles in the media this week also report that Japan is currently looking at revising its assisted reproduction law with a draft bill, which if approved, would for the first time enable those who conceive with donor eggs and sperm to become legal parents in Japan.
