The announcement on 11 February 2020 that the government is launching a review of storage laws in the UK for eggs, sperm and embryos is welcome news. It is long overdue and much needed to improve women’s and men’s reproductive choice and rights and end discrimination.

Consumer law guidelines for the IVF sector

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced on 7 February 2020 that it is investigating concerns about possible mis-selling of IVF 'add-on' treatments and misrepresentation of fertility treatment clinic success rates in the UK. The CMA also announced that it intends to produce written guidance (currently lacking in the UK) on consumer protection law for the IVF sector.
